Assisting at Mass

The celebration of the Mass is at the heart of our Catholic faith, and it is enriched by the service of dedicated lay volunteers who assist in various roles. These roles help foster a prayerful and welcoming environment where the whole community can participate more fully in the sacred liturgy.

We invite you to learn more about these opportunities and consider how you might share your gifts in service at Mass.

  • Altar Servers support and assist during the Masses and other liturgies, each taking on specific roles and responsibilities that contribute to the smooth and prayerful flow of the service. Their participation brings a deeper sense of reverence and devotion to the liturgy, enhancing its sacred atmosphere and offering greater service to God. Many of their duties include carrying processional lanterns, the careful handling of communion patens, the reverent use of incense, and their involvement in the various liturgical processions that mark the solemn moments of the celebration.

  • The Lector proclaims the Word of God at Mass. An understanding of and love of Scripture, as well as the willingness to proclaim that Word to those gathered, is essential to being an effective lector. If you are comfortable speaking in front of others, able to speak in a bold clear voice, you can be a lector.

You will be scheduled at a Mass time of your preference and occasionally asked to volunteer to Lector at special times of the year such at Holy Week and Christmas.

  • Ushers are responsible for taking up the offertory and directing the flow of people as they receive Communion. They distribute bulletins, and help keep the church neat for the following Mass.

  • Our music volunteers lead the assembly to praise the Lord in song, providing music for the Mass, funerals, and special events.  Weekly practice is the norm.

    There are several different groups:

    • English choir - predominately leads music at 11:00 a.m. Mass

    • Spanish Coro - leads music at Saurday (7:00PM) Sunday (8:00 am, 1:30 p.m) Masses

    • Cantors - lead at 5:00 p.m. Saturday

    • Children's Choir - sings at occasional Masses throughout year

  • Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are laypeople who are specially commissioned to help distribute the Eucharist during Mass and, in some cases, to bring Communion to the sick, homebound, or those in hospitals.
